Former inmate and lawyer William Lerach won’t be able to help satisfy his community service requirement by teaching a law school class. In fact, he won’t be teaching the class at all. On Monday, an “incensed” U.S. District Judge John Walter of Los Angeles denied Lerach’s motion to get community service credit for his teaching and complained that the ex-inmate apparently lacked remorse for his crime, the National Law Journal reports. And a spokesman for the school, the University of California, Irvine School of Law, tells the publication Lerach won’t be teaching there in any event. Walter said he regretted…

The filing states that Jennifer Keeton must demonstrate her ability to counsel all clients, including the homosexual and transgender population, in order to graduate. The university's response explains that ASU professors asked Keeton to complete a remediation plan after she wrote in a term paper regarding the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender, or GLBT, community that "it would be hard (for her) to work with this population." Keeton also told fellow student Justin C. Earnest that she would tell gay clients "their behavior is morally wrong and then help the client change that behavior," according to an affidavit by Earnest included in the school's filing. The Ethics Requirements for graduation clearly state that telling a client their behavior is morally wrong and helping them to change that behavior are not considered ethical actions, and are, in fact, unethical.
